The most common pattern in Kuwait is a student who understands the physics in the lesson and then loses marks in the exam. That gap is almost never fixed by more explanation. It is fixed by writing answers under time pressure and having them marked against the real mark scheme.
So the useful test of a teacher is not how clearly they explain, which everyone claims. It is what they do with the forty minutes after the explanation. If the answer is more explaining, the grade will not move.
Six things to check before you choose
A class where you watch for an hour is worth less than a class where you write for twenty minutes and get marked. Ask for the split before you join.
A teacher who has not looked at your last school paper is guessing. Ask what they want to see before the first lesson.
Kuwaiti British curriculum schools sit Cambridge 0625 or Edexcel 4PH1, and some sit Combined Science 0653. These are different exams. Check your entry code with your school.
Kuwait City runs on the same clock as Riyadh, Doha and Manama, and schools run Sunday to Thursday. Classes should sit in Kuwait evenings, not after midnight on someone else's timetable.
Paper 6 is a written paper about experiments, not an experiment. Kuwaiti students who leave it until April lose marks they already knew how to get.

Where students in Kuwait lose the most marks
These are the places marks go missing most often, taken from marking student scripts rather than from a textbook contents page. Each one is a specific habit, not a topic to revise again.
v equals f lambda is easy; the marks go on units. Wavelength in metres, frequency in hertz, and a kilohertz converted before it goes near the equation.
Two construction rays are enough, but they have to be the right two: one parallel to the axis then through the focus, one straight through the centre. Rulers, not freehand.
The classic mistake is forgetting the sound travels there and back, so the distance in the calculation is double the distance to the wall. Write the word each way in the working.
Students substitute first and then try to rearrange with numbers in place. Rearrange the symbols, check the units, then put numbers in once.
Calculate needs working. State needs no working. Determine usually means take a value off a graph first. Losing marks here is losing them for reading, not for physics.
Learn the order and one use and one danger for each. All of them travel at the same speed in a vacuum, and forgetting that costs a mark in almost every paper that mentions the spectrum.
Waves spread out most when the gap is about the same size as the wavelength. The wavelength does not change when a wave diffracts, and neither does the frequency. Only the shape of the wavefront changes.
The image is virtual, the same size, and as far behind the mirror as the object is in front. All three are separate marks, and most students write only the first.
Which exam you are actually sitting
This is the question most students in Kuwait get wrong, and it is worth settling in five minutes. British curriculum schools across the Gulf enter students for one of two different physics exams, and many schools do not publish which one on their website. Check your entry code with your school office.
- Cambridge IGCSE Physics 0625. Core students sit Paper 1, Paper 3 and a practical paper; Extended students sit Paper 2, Paper 4 and a practical paper. The practical is either Paper 5, a real lab exam, or Paper 6, the written alternative to practical.
- Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Physics 4PH1. Two written papers, Paper 1P and Paper 2P. The modular route uses 4WPH1 and 4WPH2.
- Cambridge IGCSE Combined Science 0653, where physics is one third of a single award.
- Cambridge International AS and A Level Physics 9702, for students carrying on after IGCSE.
- Cambridge IGCSE 9-1 Physics 0972 is the same syllabus as 0625 with a 9 to 1 grade scale, and is offered in the UK administrative zone rather than the Gulf. If your school enters you for it, the 0625 past papers are the right practice papers.

- The Cambridge November 2026 exams run from late September to mid November, with IGCSE and O Level results on 14 January 2027.
- Edexcel International GCSE Physics 4PH1 Paper 1P is on 11 November 2026 and Paper 2P is on 18 November 2026.
- There is no January International GCSE series. Pearson ended it after January 2023, so the series are now summer and November only.
