What Paper 2 is testing

• Structured AS questions worth sixty marks in seventy five minutes. That is roughly a mark a minute, so a question worth two marks does not deserve a paragraph.
• Definitions must be stated in full. "Force per unit area" earns the mark, "pressure is force over area" often does not.
• When the question says explain, the mark scheme wants a cause and an effect linked together, not a restated fact.
• Show the substitution before the answer. Method marks survive an arithmetic slip; a bare wrong number earns nothing.
